Laser rejuvenation is a cosmetic procedure that can correct a vast array of skin imperfections. Treatment is performed by Dr. Madnani and can be customized to the unique needs and desired outcome of the individual patient. Results and recovery times will depend on the depth of the procedure, with deeper treatments offering more dramatic results, but longer recovery periods after treatment.
Who is it For?
Dr. Madnani may recommend laser rejuvenation to address the following concerns:
- Fine lines around the eyes, lips and forehead
- Sun damage or signs of aging like brown spots
- Shallow scarring from chicken pox or acne
- Sagging, wrinkly skin under the lower eyelid
- Redness and the appearance of spider veins (telangiectasia)
- Uneven skin tone or texture
Laser rejuvenation can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedure, such as injectable fillers or Botox cosmetic. Dr. Madnani usually recommends specific skincare products for use before and after laser rejuvenation to maximize results as well.
How does it Work?
Fractional skin resurfacing has dramatically changed the way physicians approach skin resurfacing and wrinkle reduction. It works by creating tiny micro-wounds while leaving bridges of untreated skin, thus treating only a fraction of the skin’s surface; As a result discomfort and healing time are minimized. Fractional resurfacing appeals to a broad range of patients, from those needing to repair light damage to those wanting more dramatic results. The procedure lives up to its promise to reduce skin imperfections and promote collagen regeneration for long term wrinkle reduction, reclaiming the skin’s youthful appearance, tone and color.
What are Results Like?
Recovery from laser rejuvenation depends on how deep the treatment worked. Immediately following treatment you will experience some swelling and redness.
If your doctor is aggressive during the procedure, the area treated will appear red for a longer period of time. In most cases, this issue resolves in one to three weeks. During that time, with the exception of the first few days post-treatment, you may apply makeup to tone down the redness. Normal activities may be resumed, in most cases, within 5-7 days. Lighter treatments may result in skin redness similar to sunburn, which may persist for a number of days. Deeper treatments require longer recovery periods of 7-14 days, which may be characterized by skin redness and flaking away of the outer skin layer.
During the recovery period and for a number of weeks after, Dr. Madnani will recommend specific skincare products to protect the skin, promote healing and enhance the results of your procedure. Results of laser resurfacing may be evident right away, but will continue to improve over time as the skin initiates its own healing process and collagen production. Results may last for many years before any type of touch-up treatment is required.
