Surprising Uses for Injectable Treatments
Injectable treatments have become the go-to anti-aging option for many men and women today.
In addition to smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles, these formulations have found their way
into other treatments, offering benefits not often associated with Botox and dermal fillers. At
Madnani Facial Plastics, we have some surprising uses for injectable treatments you may not
have heard of.
Your jawline often sets the tone for the rest of your facial profile. If the jaw is weak or
asymmetrical, it can throw off the rest of the facial features as well. Today, jaw reshaping can be
performed without surgery, using injectable fillers to add volume, create a new contour and
restore a youthful profile to the lower face. In addition to dermal fillers, neuromodulators like
Botox can be used to relax the muscles of the lower jaw and add definition to the contour of the
The aging process does more than produce fine lines and wrinkles in the skin. Loss of collagen in
the underlying skin structure over time leads to hollowing and volume loss in key areas like
under the eyes, around the cheeks and along the jawline. Dermal fillers like Voluma can restore
that facial volume, creating a more youthful appearance overall. Voluma is the only dermal filler
specifically approved by the FDA for restoring volume to different areas of the face, with results
that last up to two years.
In the past, forehead lifts involved a surgical procedure, anesthesia and a recovery period after to
restore the position and the appearance of the forehead. Today, mild to moderate signs of aging
in the upper face can be effectively addressed with a non-surgical facelift using injections of
Botox or another neuromodulator. When strategically placed in areas of the forehead, Botox can
successfully raise the lateral brow, minimizing “hooding” above the eyes and giving the eyes a
refreshed, awake appearance.
The eyes are often one of the first facial features to show the signs of age, from hollowing and
dark circles under the eye to fine lines in the outer corners of the eye, known as crow’s feet.
While eyelid surgery can address many of these concerns, newer formulations of dermal fillers,
as well as tried-and-true neuromodulators, can also have a profound effect on signs of aging
around the eyes without incisions, anesthesia or downtime.
Dr. Madnani often uses Belotero, a relatively new dermal filler with a softer, smoother texture
that lends itself well to the delicate skin around the eye. This injectable can be placed under the
eyes to eliminate hollows around the tear trough and restore youthful volume. At the same time,
Botox injections can be placed in the outer corners of the eyes to relax those fine lines and create
a smoother, more youthful appearance.
A final treatment offered by neuromodulators like Botox is not injected to the face at all, but
instead can be administered to the underarm area. This procedure effectively treats a medical
condition known as hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. The Botox medication is used to block
the production of the chemical in the body that “turns on” the sweat glands, leading to
significantly less sweating in the armpits. The procedure has been shown to be up to 87 percent
effective in reducing sweat, leading to drier days and less embarrassment for patients.
Injectable treatments have proven their worth in both the cosmetic and medical arenas, offers a
